Walmart Enters Merchant Cash Advance Industry as Direct Funder
deBanked places Walmart's own seller advance programs, repaid from future sales, in the merchant cash advance industry alongside Parafin and Payoneer.

Walmart has added its own advance programs for Marketplace sellers, which deBanked reported on September 15 as merchant cash advances that Walmart is funding directly. The two Walmart-run offers, Capital by Walmart and Capital for WFS (the Walmart Fulfillment Services arm), now appear on the Marketplace capital page. Outside funders Parafin and Payoneer already serve sellers there. The MCA label is deBanked’s; Walmart’s own page does not use it for Capital by Walmart.
Capital by Walmart
The page advertises a single flat fee with no figure attached. Repayment is deducted from future sales. Per deBanked, collection happens through Marketplace payouts every settlement cycle, and Walmart may debit the seller’s bank account if the settlement balance cannot cover the amount. Walmart says funding comes by invitation or on request, as available, and deBanked describes the program as invite-only for the moment.
To be considered, a seller must be active on Walmart Marketplace in the U.S. and hold a U.S. taxpayer ID; the decision rests on the seller’s sales and performance record. deBanked says an explainer video posted August 1 states that Walmart may fund a seller directly or send it to third-party funders.
Capital for WFS and the partners
Capital for WFS is built around inventory. Walmart lists flexible repayment and funding matched to a seller’s stocking plans.
The outside option is Capital by Parafin, which Parafin and Walmart Marketplace announced on September 11 with the holiday season in mind. Parafin provides the money. Walmart’s page describes a single fixed capital fee, payments that track a set share of sales, and repayment of up to nine months.
Payoneer has supplied working capital to Walmart sellers since December 2021, when the tie-up was first announced. According to deBanked, its Q1 2024 cash-flow statement records $80 million of merchant cash advances originated.
Context and open points
Walmart reported 32% growth in U.S. Marketplace sales for its fiscal second quarter, in its August 15 earnings release. deBanked says the earnings report omitted any mention of the funding programs or partners; we have not checked the full report.
Unpublished: how large the in-house fee is, whether Walmart or a partner supplies the money for each in-house advance, and how many sellers have received an invitation.
